Christina Romer - Chair of the CEA

  • Professor of Economics at the University of California Berkeley.
  • Before her nomination: co-director of the Program in Monetary Economics at the National Bureau of Economic Research & served as Vice President of the American Economic Association (also a member of the executive committee).
  • Known for her research on the causes and recovery of the Great Depression & the role that fiscal and monetary policy played in the country's economic recovery.
  • Recently her work, authored with David Romer, shows the impact of tax policy on government and economic growth.
  • Received her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1985.


Austan Goolsbee - CEA Member

  • Also serves as staff director & chief economist on the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board.
  • Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
  • Economic advisor to Barack Obama's 2004 Senate race.
  • Senior advisor to Senator Obama's 2008 Presidential campaign.
  • Member of the panel of Economic Advisers to the Congressional Budget Office, a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
  • Research fellow at the American Bar Foundation.
  • Senior Economist to the Democratic Leadership Council.
  • Fulbright Scholar & recipient of an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship.
  • Received his B.A. summa cum laude in economics from Yale University in 1991, his M.A. in economics from Yale University in 1991, & his Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1995.

  • Member of the MacArthur Foundation's Research Network on the Transition to Adulthood.
  • Served in the National Economic Council under President William J. Clinton from 1998 to 1999.
  • Received her Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
